The SycamoreTree Preschool
In 1980, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church established The Sycamore Tree Preschool as one of their many ministries. The preschool is located in the old parsonage next door to the church; this safe, comfortable “home” environment has a positive impact on children. click here for more
Youth
Age appropriate Christian education for youth (ages 3-18) is offered every Sunday during the Education Hour (9 a.m.). Youth in Pre-School through 6th grade begin the hour in song and then move to their classes. Jr/Sr High students meet in the Youth Room and explore their faith through fellowship, study and group discussion.
Grades K through 6
These children meet first in the "Gathering Place" at 9 AM for songs, worship and story introduction. They then move with their teacher to a class room to experince the lesson using 'Seasons of the Spirit" material which is based on the lectionary for the day so it ties in with the worship service as well. They have a variety of learning opportunities through story, drama, crafts or media presentations.
Using the Rotating Model of Sunday School, the age appropriate groups move to various stations (9:30-10:00 a.m.) to experience the story and theme in a variety of ways including such things as science, art, video, storytelling, drama, games and creative cookery. The lessons follow a theme for a month. Some themes have included Dig into the Bible, Noah, The Gift of Jesus, Journey to the Cross and Teach us to pray.
Jr/Sr High School
These students meet in the Youth Room, lower level below the sanctuary, from 9 to 10 AM for Bible study and discussion time. The Bible study is usually based on the scripture used for that day in worship, and discussion is always focused on how it relates to their lives today. This class also participates in service projects around the church, community and the world.
Adult Education
Adult education include a variety of forms. Various forums are available that are led by congregation members, community leaders and/or the pastor.
Adult inquiry classes are also available for anyone interested in learning about the faith. They are held at least once a year, or as interest demands. Anyone interested in this should contact Pastor Meeker or the church office.
Confirmation
Youth entering the 6th grade are welcome to join our 2-year Youth Confirmation class. Classes, led by Pastor Meeker, meet every Wednesday evening (1st year at 6:15 p.m., 2nd year at 7:00 p.m.) at Our Saviour's. This education instructs our youth in a deeper understanding of the Bible and teachings of Martin Luther. After completion of the 2-year program, these students are celebrated with Confirmation and entry in the congregation as adult members. If you are interested in joining our Confirmation program, please contact the Church office.
